Top 10 largest lakes in New Hampshire are Winnipesaukee Lake 44,586 acres, Squam Lake 6,764 acres, Umbagog Lake 4,532 acres, Winnisquam Lake 4,264 acres, Newfound Lake 4,106 acres, Sunapee Lake 4,090 acres, Moore Reservoir 3,490 acres, Ossipee Lake 3,091 acres, Wentworth Lake 3,017 acres and Massabesic Lake 2,900 acres surface area.
Umbagog Lake enjoys the highest elevation at 1,245 feet, while Lake Massabesic at Manchester NH is located at a lowly 249 feet above sea level.
The water level of most of New Hampshire lakes is regulated by dams, this helps avoid structural damage to properties, piers and docks when the lakes freeze over and mitigates spring flooding when the snow melts.
